General Service

Welcome to the Orange County General Service Committee of Alcoholics Anonymous!

What Does the Orange County General Service Committee Do?

The purpose of the Orange County General Service Committee is to serve the needs of the AA groups within Orange County, NY and to act as a constituent part of the Southeastern New York (SENY/Area 49) Committee of General Service. Unlike Intergroup, which provides local services, the General Service Committee maintains the link between AA groups and the General Service Board.

The General Service structure of Alcoholics Anonymous is made up of people who give freely of their own time to help the still-suffering alcoholic through a structured service entity. The structure is an inverted triangle with AA groups at the top, each represented by a Group Service Representative (GSR). GSRs are the vital link in the chain of communication between the home group and AA as a whole. Districts (through District Committee Members) aid the GSRs and serve as a link between the GSRs and the Area Assemblies. Each Area of AA in the U.S. and Canada has an elected Delegate who votes on behalf of his/her Area at the General Service Conference. Once a year (in late April) the Delegates from the service areas of AA meet in New York and report back through the conference structure.
